GreenRoad Technologies to Participate in MPG Marathon
Safety Center to Demonstrate Link Between Safe Driving and Reduced Fuel Consumption
London, UK, October 3, 2007 -- GreenRoad Technologies Inc. http://www.greenroadtech.com, an innovative leader in driver safety technologies, today announced that Safety Center will be installed in one of the vehicles participating in the 2007 AA/ALD MPG Marathon www.mpgmarathon.com/2007 on 3rd and 4th October 2007. GreenRoad trials demonstrate that the link between driving safely and fuel consumption with Safety Center fleets lowered fuel use by seven percent.
The marathon is designed to raise awareness of eco-driving, economic and environmentally responsible motoring that helps drivers "cut the carbs" that are linked to climate change. The 350-mile roundtrip from Basingstoke to Torquay will see more than 30 vehicles attempt to achieve higher miles per gallon than the manufacturer best estimate. In the 2006 marathon, a Toyota Aygo squeezed 83.44 MPG.
GreenRoad Safety Center will be installed in a Kia c'eed diesel being driven by Ken Rogers, editor of Fleet World magazine. Ken will receive information on his driving abilities with an LED on the dashboard, SMS alerts at the end of each leg of the journey and an online profile.
By empowering drivers to manage their own safety, GreenRoad can change driver behaviour behind the wheel. As well as the reduction in fuel, Safety Center reduces driver crashes by an average of 54 percent and lowers accident costs by an average of 65 percent, all without invading driver privacy. Safety Center uses a sensor in the car to collect information about driver skills, attitude, speed and the journey. Safety Center then analyzes 120 different driver maneuvers in five categories: speed, braking, acceleration, lane-handling and turning. Drivers are continually rated as red, yellow or green drivers.
"When drivers are given feedback about their driving behaviour, they improve their skills dramatically and improve their miles per gallon,” said Aidan Rowsome, Vice President of GreenRoad Technologies EMEA. "With rising fuel price rises and the trend towards reducing carbon emissions, the MPG Marathon has a poignant message for fleet managers and COO's.”
About GreenRoad
GreenRoad develops driver safety technologies that stop risky driving before an accident occurs, and dramatically reduce crash rates for fleets and insurance companies. Its solutions are designed to empower drivers to manage their own safety by giving instantaneous, in-vehicle driver feedback, without privacy invasions. Safety Center focuses on how they are driving, not where, and does not watch the drivers with intrusive video cameras. Over time, Safety Center has proven that it can change driver behaviour behind the wheel. The result is fewer accidents, lower accident costs and safer drivers.
